It's a question that I"ve been wondering for ever. Just lately, I've been thinking on running for congress. And I do qualify for it. For qualifications, you have to be at least 30 years old. I'm 34. And you have to live at least seven (7) years to live in the state you have to represent. I've always wondered this. If I have to live in the same state that I represent. ( Let's say I live in state New York. Do I have to represent New York and live in D.c? ) Well, this is what I found out. Here's the answer. As a political and legal matter, you must live in the state you represent. As a practical matter, you need to live in or near DC as you will be working here. A few Members represent Districts / states that allow them to commute from their normal home, e.g. Virginia and Maryland. As a Senator, Biden often took the train home to Delaware.
